As part of a special bootcamp to mark the DVD/Blu-ray release of Act of Valor, members of the media–California Life’s Audra Stafford, included– were put through the paces of a grueling workout at SEALFIT in Encinitas. SEALFIT has a reputation as being the toughest training in the world, outside the NAVY SEALs. And they didn’t exactly go easy on the media!
In addition to a high-intensity “grinder PT,” everyone had to come together to lift a 250-pound log, perform mortar drills and endure some “surf torture.”
SEALFIT founder and veteran Navy SEAL Mark Divine says the training is based on a Navy SEAL “Hell Week” concept– that you’re capable of much more than you think you are–and that success starts in your head. It’s that mental toughness, combined with the physical training that prepares the SEALs to carry out missions like the ones seen in Act of Valor, which stars 8 actual Navy SEALs.
Director Scott Waugh says filming the SEALs was an adventure in itself. But he says the movie also shows a side of these warriors not often seen on the big screen. ”Them being husbands and fathers and having to deal with ordinary problems,” Waugh said.
A portion of every Act of Valor DVD sold will go to benefit Operation Homefront, which benefits military families.
