The First Premise of Forging an Unbeatable Mind

 
The first premise of forging an Unbeatable Mind is that you must win in the mind first, before you enter the battleground.  For most the battleground is just getting through the day!  But for us here at SEALFIT it is BUD/s, the CrossFit Games, or a daunting challenge like the Bataan Death March or Spartan Death Race.
 
Navy SEAL training is like the ultimate Obstacle Race.  It lasts for close to a year.  You must master body mind and spirit to survive the hardship, intrigue and obstacles, both known and unknown, that stand in your path.

The reality is that BUD/s, the Race, or the Games are won in your mind before you show up on the big day.  When psychologist studied who wins at BUD/s and who loses, they could only come up with the brilliant deduction that those with more “grit” were the ones who got the Trident.
 
In your training phase, well before the event, physical training is your driver.  Your physical training plan sets your battle rhythm.  You eat breath and sleep around your training plan.  Mental training is noted, but little is done.  This approach gets you to the starting line, but is not good to guarantee the win.
 
Folks who understand the first premise are said to have grit.  Grit is hard to define.  The best athletes are not always the ones who succeed at BUD/s.  Similarly, take a marathon runner, enroll them into a crushing endurance obstacle race, and there is  not much likelihood they will finish.  They have not developed grit.
